Who’s behind SeventyOne? In an attempted equation, we have decoded Raphael’s Vannier (the brand co-founder and chief marketing officer) and Marc Levy's (the brand’s co-founder and CEO) personality.

When Raphael co founded Seventy One, he was looking for sun care products adapted to surfing, his skin and harmless to the environment. Pushing forward his values, he gave birth to the brand, and for 10 years now, any time he develops a new product the guidelines remain the same : clean ingredients, environmentally harmless, balancing sensoriality and efficiency, all made in France… In fact, it is beauty with no compromise with his personal values and convictions.

In 2009, when he decided to embark on the Seventy One Percent adventure with his friend Marc, Raphael was a media planner in a major company in Paris. He left ALL behind : job, apartment, his city, even his girlfriend….It’s what we call a leap into the Void/the Dark (jump over the falls). In his professional life as well as in his personal life, his passion mostly drives his decisions. A way of life that even pushed this music passionate to launch Le Vinyle Club

"Know how to be surrounded is a key success factor for an entrepreneur”. For Raphael a brand is built up within a team : ”What I most love in my job today : give birth to projects, together, even though it is tough and you struggle… it’s like surfing, you should never stop paddling.

Once his EDHEC business school diploma, Marc decides to quit Nice to create his first company in Barcelona. Facing this double challenge with no fear, adding the fact that he did not know a word of spanish: “I learned my first sales text by heart”. A hint of unconsciousness and a will for entrepreneurship that will take him to move California and then to the south west coast of France, where he’ll found SeventyOne Percent.

Surfing alone? “No way”. Marc loves to share his surfing sessions. A state of mind that allowed him to make unique encounters and tie up friendships all around the world : "I know that if I get back to Jeffrey’s Bay in South Africa, I can call that guy who showed me the better way to get in”. A value he also wished to place at the heart of the company : at Seventy One Percent, 1% of net revenue is directly shared with Visions of The World association.

Marc dreams taking SeventyOne to the international scene : “it’s a magnificent brand, with strong values and great potential of positive impact in the world”. In the future, he envisions the creation of a SeventyOne Foundation to achieve the means of his engagement. Far longer, Marc imagines himself as a happy old businessman, sufrboard in arms along with his buddy and associate Raphael.

Marc has never been a salary worker : “I may have learned to be more rigorous if I had been employed, still it is exhilarating to do things by myself. You have to learn to defend your deep convictions, without being influenced. I am sincerely convinced that experience is the sum of our errors”.
